Bushwacked

      Vanity in the bough
      Vanity in the briar,
      So saith the preacher
      And prays his prayer.
5          God lies knotted in the bower.
      Kisses, sweet messes and delight,
Sings the cold widow who lives by the bay,
On these my thoughts drink dry the day,
My hungry body feasts the night.
10         God lies knotted in the bower.
Priest and widow one pulpit share
And body and soul are tight,
What one rasps to the empty air
The other laughs in the dark.
15         God lies knotted in the bower.
