How We Die

      Perhaps
It is like walking straight upwards
      From a clear shore
      Until the wren's singing
5     Is only water. And we float about freely,
      Completely under.
      Or, perhaps,
      Flying and stinging like wasps,
We leave half of ourselves dragged out behind us,
10    Beating and hurting.
